Fascinating! Mathematics is a real conundrum. My personal definition is that math is “the abstract imaginary structure that does not change.” I see math as an eternal sculpture embedded within thought. However, this description is only a superficial one. The reason I say this is because of the paradox of the existence of irrational numbers. This is no small matter. It can be shown that irrational numbers shouldn’t exist, yet they do.
