Granularity need not be necessary for a simulated universe. Every investigation, using physical means, into the nature of our reality is itself a simulation. As such any level of topological structure can be illustrated the way one might just simply draw a picture. I use the terms “picture plant” and “universal story teller.” It is like being in a sand box where in any direction you dig you just get more sand… more explanations to any level big or small.
