Hi Michael,
The purpose of life. Hmmm… Well, let me think about it. (I have already thought about it, of course. Lol.)
I have this memory from a time long long ago, much further in history than this life would allow. The memory is a realization that there is this living thing, that we call life or God, that exists forever. It is a thing that has never even evolved. It has always been like that. It is a realization, too, that there is something rather than nothing, and that that something is everything, and is also all that there is. It is the Mystery. Full stop, exclamation mark. Why should things exist at all, and if they do which they obviously do, then are there other such things elsewhere? Maybe we are just abandoned, like an island? Maybe life is the only thing that exists anywhere and that it stretches out forever in every conceivable direction, as islands or not? Something for you to think about.
The purpose of life is just to live.
Basically, you, me, and everyone else including God, have no other choice. So, it works out quite well for us, doesn’t it? I say this facetiously, because existence in that forever manner is no easy task for anyone. I think existentially, it necessitates the requirement for drama. And unfortunately, I believe this is one of the reasons we have such turmoil and suffering in our world. You must remember, though, that there is no sovereignty of man. There is only the illusion of sovereignty, or free will. This predicament that we are in, has nothing to do with God.
I have my own personal mission statement. Would you like to hear it? I decided to learn to live in the actual conscious presence of God, and to share my life and experiences with the spectrum of other living beings beyond our world, both advanced and primitive, like a living thread in a tapestry. So, that we would all benefit.
If you want some purpose in life, then I would recommend studying the Mystery.
The space for exploration is much larger than you think. I’ll give you an example of how complex things can get. I was walking down the street once with many other pedestrians, going about their own business, and I started to listen to their fragments of conversation. One couple would walk past me and I would hear a fragment of what they were saying to one another, and then another couple too, And then another, and another, etc. At the time, I remember threading all those conversational fragments into coherent sentences. It was like someone speaking to me in parallel through all those other people, and I realized that this is what was happening. Perhaps merely as a demonstration? I don’t know.
There’s way more even than what I have just said.
I hope this inspires you to learn more.
PS: I am glad that you are not offended.
