Thank you for this great article. I once read a book by an author named Paul Rojas, and he had a whole chapter on Kohonen self organizing maps. I find the topic strangely mystifying. In one of it’s applications, I discovered, I was able to use a very similar algorithm to generate fundamental geometries to any degree of dimensionality, starting from any number of vertices. There’s a lot to learn from self organizing networks. Anyways, thanks.
